BALTIMORE, Md. - Members of the Coppin State University Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) enjoyed giving back to the women and children at Catholic Charities My Sister's Place Women's Center on Thursday, February 16, 2017.
The five student- athletes prepared and served dinner to over 50 women and children who are dependent on My Sister's Place Women's Center for daily hot meals.
"The overall experience was eye opening to me and it warmed my heart being able to serve those in need," softball freshman Arianna Alderete said. "The best part was when people thanked us for helping out that evening because they seemed genuine and very appreciative of our service."
Along with Alderete, volunteers included women's basketball junior Candice Beverly, women's track and field junior Savannah Forte, women's track and field junior Randi Bohler, and softball freshman Patricia Soria. The theme of the dinner was "Potluck Night." SAAC members served a variety of dishes that included spaghetti, meatloaf, and enchiladas.
"It opened my eyes to how blessed I am," Candice Beverly said when asked about her favorite part about the community service event. "It gave me another perspective of how life could be and how fast things can sometimes change."
