WACO, Texas – Despite a game-high 25 points by
Genesis Lucas and a double-double by
Chance Graham, Coppin State University's women's basketball team dropped its season opener to third-ranked Baylor, 100-54 on Sunday afternoon.
A redshirt senior from Brandywine, Md., Lucas made just 8-of-29 shots as the Bears (2-0) held the Eagles to 32.2% shooting while shooting 61.2% from the field themselves. Lucas made three shots from downtown and all six of her free throw attempts.
Graham also had one a game to remember with a career-high 19 points on 8-of-15 shooting to go with 11 rebounds, good for her fifth career double-double.
Coppin did not get much offensive production outside of Lucas and Graham other than freshman
Camille Downs, who scored eight points in her collegiate debut.
Mia Crooms also made a pair of free throws for the Eagles while
Candice Beverly dished out a career-high six assists.
Baylor, who led from start to finish, put five players in double figures, led by Kalani Brown who finished with 24 points on 10-of-11 shooting and a game-high 12 rebounds.
The Eagles return to action on Tuesday, November 14 when they travel to Stephen F. Austin for a 7 pm tipoff.
