Lady Eagles Fall to Morgan State

BALTIMORE- The Coppin State women's basketball team fell to crosstown rival Morgan State, 72-51 Monday night February 1 in the Hill Field House in Baltimore.
 
The loss snapped a two game Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) win streak for Coppin State (7-12, 4-3).
 
Keena Smauels led the Lady Eagles with 23 points as she tied a team season high with nine made field goals. Her 23 points was two shy of career best. She added one rebound, one assists and one steal in 38 minutes of game action.
 
Samuels has scored in double figures in all the Lady Eagles MEAC games.
 
Senior Janelle Lane tallied 10 points and four rebounds on 4-of-7 shooting from the floor. Lane added three steals and one block.
 
Genesis Lucas finished with a team high six assists. She added seven points, three rebounds and one steal in 36 minutes.
 
Jordan Swails also chipped in seven points, four rebounds and one assist on a perfect 3-on-3 from the field.
 
Coppin State outscored Morgan State in the paint, 26-24 and fast break points, 6-0.
 
The Lady Eagles matched the Lady Bears in the battle of the boards at 36 apiece.
 
The Morgan State Lady Bears (8-12, 6-2) have won its last two MEAC home games.
 
Tykyrah Williams led the Lady Bears with 18 points and six rebounds. Braennan Farrar added 15 points and five assists for Morgan State.
 
The Lady Eagles will return to action for their second of three consecutive road MEAC games when they head to Orangeburg, S.C. to take on the South Carolina State Lady Bulldogs Saturday February 6. Tipoff is at 2:00 p.m. in the Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center.
