Keena Samuels torched North Carolina A&T for a career high 25 points as the Coppin State Lady Eagles cruised past the Aggies for a 65-59 victory Wednesday evening January, 27 in PEC Arena.

After the Aggies took a 50-49 lead with five minutes to play in the second half, a steal and layup by Samuels sparked a 7-0 Lady Eagles run. North Carolina A&T never recaptured the lead.

Samuels shot 8-of-15 from the field and knocked down nine of her 12 foul shots. She added two assists and three steals while playing all 40 minutes of the game. Samuels sunk five of her final six free throws to help seal the game for Coppin State.

Coppin State (6-11, 3-2) remains undefeated in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) home games this season.

Senior
Omaah Tayong recorded a double double in her seventh start of the season. Tayong finished with 15 points and tied a season best with 13 rebounds. She went 7-of-12 shooting from the field in 32 minutes.

Jordan Swails added 12 points, seven rebounds, two assists and one steal. She connected on four of her five free throws. Swails has scored in double figures in back-to-back games.

Janelle Lane tallied nine points, seven rebounds, three assists, one block and one steal in the Lady Eagles victory.

Genesis Lucas led Coppin State with four assists. She added two points and six rebounds.

Coppin State crushed North Carolina A&T in the paint, 30-12 as the Lady Eagles led 20-5 at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Eagles also scored 24 points off 22 Aggie turnovers.

The Lady Eagles won the battle of the board 41-31. Coppin State's 21 made free throws was one shy of its season best.

The North Carolina State Aggies (9-10, 5-3) are now 2-2 in their last four MEAC games.

Aprill McRae led the Aggies with 10 points and five rebounds. Christina Carter added nine points, six rebounds and four assists for North Carolina A&T.

Coppin State will return to action Saturday, January 30 as they square off against the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. Tipoff is at 2:00 p.m. in the Physical Education Complex.Â
