BALTIMORE – Three Coppin State women's basketball players scored double figures in a 68-58 loss to South Carolina State Saturday in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) contest in the Physical Education Complex.
Junior guard
Jordan Swails posted 12 of her 17 points in the first half. She also added four rebounds, two assists and a steal. This is the ninth time she has been in double digits this season.
Bria Harris put up 10 points and eight boards. This season, Harris has led Coppin State in rebounding and scored in double figures nine times.
Amber Griffin tied her career-best with 12 points.
Genesis Lucas finished with eight points and a game-high seven assists.
The Eagles (3-17 overall, 2-7 MEAC) were a force in the first half thanks to Swails and Harris combining for 22 points. Coppin State went on a 15-7 run in the last five minutes and had a 41-33 lead at halftime. The two teams traded baskets and tied the game for the fourth time at 53 with 10 minutes, 17 seconds remaining before the Bulldogs went ahead. A three-pointer from Griffin brought the Eagles within two points but that's as close as they would get.
Kourtney Williams paced S.C. State with 25 points. Jazzmine Johnson had 15 points while Amber Howard finished with 11 points. Jasmine Coleman added 13 points, nine rebounds and four blocks.
Coppin State scored 21 points off of S.C. State turnovers and outrebounded its opponent 41-31.
The Eagles are back in action on Monday when they host Savannah State at 5:30 p.m.
