BALTIMORE – Coppin State senior forward
Omaah Tayong recorded her fourth career double-double in the Lady Eagles 68-61 thrilling double overtime home opening loss to UMBC in the Physical Education Complex.
Tayong scored 12 points and snagged a career high 13 rebounds on 6-of-12 shooting in 43 minutes on Wednesday afternoon.
Overall three Coppin State (0-3) Lady Eagles scored in double figures during the game.
Senior
Janelle Lane had a strong overall performance. The Baltimore native fell just short of a double-double as she scored a team high of 17 points, grabbed nine rebounds, dished out two assists, three blocks and one steal in 33 minutes. Lane also shot a team high of 12 free throws going 9-of-12 for the contest.

Amber Griffin had 11 points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals and a team high 47minutes played for the Lady Eagles.

Tanaysa Henderson grabbed a career high of 11 rebounds, while adding six points and one block.
UMBC (1-2) was led by Pandora Wilson, who recorded 21 points and 14 rebounds. Chiamaka Chukwuma added 13 points, five rebounds and three steals.
Coppin State came out swinging in the first half, leading by four at halftime. This was the first game of the season in which the Lady Eagles were outscored in the third quarter.
The game was filled with back and forth all the way down to the final minutes of double overtime. UMBC put up 71 shots to Coppin State's 64.
In the fourth quarter the Lady Eagles battled back from a five-point deficit with 5:46 to go to take the game into its first overtime.
Veteran head coach
Derek Brown wants his team to look at this as a learning experience.
"We played tighter as the game got closer," said Brown, who is in his 16th overall season head women's basketball coach at Coppin State. "We cannot play scared and make unintelligent plays. We're not going to win any games turning the ball over like we did."
Overall, the Lady Eagles finished the game with 34 turnovers.
Coppin State will return to action November 22, when they head across town to face for a Sunday afternoon showdown against Towson.
