GAME PREVIEW: Coppin State at West Virginia

BALTIMORE – The Coppin State women's basketball team completes its season-opening two-game road by visiting West Virginia for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off at the Coliseum Monday night.

It will be the third consecutive season Coppin State is making a trip to West Virginia. A free video stream will be provided at WVUsports.com. Jeff Culhane and Liz Repella will call the action on the Mountaineer Sports Network from IMG.

Coppin State will be looking to bounce back from Friday's 73-42 loss to VCU. The Lady Eagles were led by junior guard Keena Samuels' 12 points, the fourth time in her career she has reached double digits. Although it's just one game, Samuels leads the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) in assist-to-turnover ratio (3.0).

Also in the VCU contest, seniors Jordan Swails and Janelle Lane scored nine points each. The Lady Eagles had 11 assists as a team with Samuels, Amber Griffin and Genesis Lucas finishing with three each. Griffin has 296 career assists. She needs four to become the third player in women's basketball history to reach 300 assists for her career.

In last season's matchup, a West Virginia victory, Tanaysa Henderson led Coppin State with a career-high 13 points. She scored all of her points in the second half. Henderson was 3-for-3 from three-point range.

WVU (1-0) is coming off a 77-34 win over Delaware State to open the season on Saturday. It was the largest margin of victory for the Mountaineers in a season-opening game. Freshman Alexis Brewer registered a game-high 14 points in the victory. Teana Muldrow added 13 points and set new career marks with four steals and three assists.

Preseason All-Big 12 selection Bria Holmes is just six points from reaching No. 15 on WVU's all-time scoring chart and nine points from climbing to No. 14. Holmes was a handful last season as scored 20 points and grabbed seven rebounds against Coppin State.

Coppin State returns to action Thursday afternoon when it hosts local rival UMBC at 12:00 p.m. in its home opener. It will be School Day and kids get into the game for free.
