WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The Coppin State women's basketball team fell to Wake Forest 65-54 at the LVJM Coliseum Sunday afternoon.
Guard
Keena Samuels paced the Eagles with a career-high 17 points.
Bria Harris added 10 points and seven rebounds. It was her second consecutive game reaching double figures in scoring.
Omaah Tayong tied her career-best with 12 points. She also led the team with nine rebounds.
Amber Griffin had seven points and four steals.
Three Coppin State players have finished with double figures in scoring in each game this season.
The Eagles started out strong, keeping up with the Demon Deacons and taking a 13-12 lead after seven minutes of play. However, Wake Forest quickly scored and controlled the rest of the game. By the second half, Coppin State was down 52-30 with 13:05 to go. The Eagles rallied to overcome the double-digit deficit but it was not enough to clinch a victory.
Dearica Hamby led Wake Forest with 29 points and 15 rebounds. Amber Campbell finished with 11 points.
Through three games, Samuels and
Janelle Lane top the Eagles with 31 points each. Harris leads the team in rebounds (26).
Coppin State hosts Robert Morris for its home opener Tuesday at noon in the Physical Education Complex.
