BALTIMORE – Angel Jones scored a game-high 20 points and
Laila Lawrence notched a double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds, leading the Coppin State women's basketball team to a 61-56 win at Morgan State on Saturday afternoon at Hill Field House. The Eagles improved to 12-9 on the year, matching their win total from last season, and 3-2 in the MEAC, while the Bears fell to 9-11 overall and 2-3 in league play.

- Jones hit 9-of-18 from the floor, making both attempts from 3-point range, recording her third-straight game with at least 20 points. She added five rebounds, three assists and three steals.
- Lawrence made 6-of-16 from the field with a three and 5-of-9 free throws while posting her league-leading 12th double-double of the season which ranks third Nationally. She also led the Eagles with four assists and matched Jones with three steals.
- Cire Worley also finished in double figures with ten points to go with five rebounds, two assists and two steals.
- Tiffany Hammond added six points, followed by Niyah Gaston with five and Dani McTeer with two.
- Morgan State narrowly outshot Coppin, 40.0% to 39.3%, but the Eagles hit seven threes compared to just five for the Bears. CSU also made three more free throws than the hosts.
- Coppin forced Morgan State into 22 turnovers which translated into 24 points.
How it Happened
- Morgan State led by as many as 14-7 with 3:05 left in the first, following a 7-0 run.
- Hammond and Jones hit threes to cut the deficit to three before the Bears hit a layup in the closing seconds to take a five-point lead into the second.
- Coppin dominated the second quarter, outscoring the Bears, 19-9, with Lawrence scoring six-straight points to give Coppin back the lead, and Jones added a layup with 1:13 remaining to put CSU up 32-27 at the half.
- The Bears closed to within a single point after the third, scoring the final five points, including a three at the buzzer.
- Morgan opened the fourth with seven of the first eight points to regain the advantage and go up 52-47 at the 6:30 mark.
- Worley answered with a three, followed by a layup to tie the score before Morgan answered with a three.
- Gaston hit a pair of free throws following a Bears technical foul, and Worley hit another three to give Coppin back the lead, 57-56 with 1:17 remaining in regulation.
- Coppin forced a turnover, called timeout and Hammond extended the lead with a layup to put CSU up three with 26 seconds to go.
- Jones forced another Bears turnover after a timeout and put the game away with another layup.
