NORFOLK, Va. –
Coppin State's Nia Bowe
was named the MEAC Softball Rookie of the Week for games from February 26 to March4, it was announced by the league office late Monday afternoon. This is the first weekly award of Bowe's career.
A freshman from Milford, Del., Bowe led the Eagles to a 2-1 record at their own Eagles Classic on March 3-4. In the three games, Bowe went 6-for-10 with two triples, six RBIs and two runs scored.
Bowe drove in the tying run and scored the game-winner in the bottom of the seventh in a 7-6 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson on March 3. Bowe went 2-for-4 with RBI triples in both the fourth and seventh innings. She gave Coppin the victory while avoiding the tag at home plate despite the catcher being in position.
She followed up later that night with a 1-for-2 effort along with an RBI in a loss to Rider before going 3-for-4 with three RBIs in a 12-10 victory over Saint Peter's on March 4.
Bowe currently leads the MEAC with a .500 batting average while ranking second with two triples. Bowe also leads Coppin with a home run, 13 RBIs, 21 total bases, and .875 slugging percentage and a .520 on-base percentage.
The Eagles return to action on Tuesday, March 13 when they host Albany in a 1 pm doubleheader.
