Chas Brown finished with a season-high 19 points in a 75-59 win for Coppin State in their MEAC opener against South Carolina State on Wednesday, January 4
th in the Physical Education Complex.

The Eagles improve to 2-14 overall record and 1-0 in conference play while South Carolina State falls to 3-11 overall and 0-1 in the MEAC. Coppin State shot the ball well in their first game of the New Year knocking down a season-high 28 field goals hitting 57% of their shots in the game. Defensively, the Eagles held SCSU to only 59 points, five made free-throws and only four made three-pointers.

Brown was force in the interior for the Eagles in his second game of the season registering a game-high 19 points on 8-of-10 made shots from the field. He also went 3-for-4 from the free-throw line and dished out his first assist of the season. Senior
Joshua Treadwell led the CSU bench with 14 points, three rebounds and two assists. He made 5-of-6 shots from the field and all three of his free-throws. A trio of Eagle starters all finished with 12 points in senior

Tre' Thomas and freshman
Dejuan Clayton. Both Thomas and Clayton made a pair of three-pointers and Harris drained 4-of-6 free-throws.

Coppin State got off to a fast start and led by double-digits (15-4) within the first six minutes of action. Harris Jr. had ten first half points as Coppin State shot a blazing 61% from the field on 16-of-26 attempts from the field. SCSU struggled from the field on the road on 33% shooting, but outrebounded CSU 21-14 in the first twenty minutes of action. Treadwell added nine points and Clayton had eight in the first half anchoring the Eagles scoring effort. Coppin State carried a 14-point lead into halftime (38-24).

In the second half, Coppin State continued to hit shots from the floor shooting 52% (12-for-23). In addition to their sharp shooting, the Eagles also got to the free-throw line 14 times knocking down 11 attempts. Treadwell and Brown both made all three of their attempts from the charity stripe keeping CSU ahead by double figures.

The Bulldogs kept up with the Eagles second half scoring and trimmed the deficit to nine points twice in the final half. Brown was a beast in the MEAC opener recording 13 of his 19 points in the second half. He was perfect from the field (5-for-5) as Coppin State held on for their largest victory of the season, 75-59 over South Carolina State.

Coppin State continues Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play with a pair of road games at Florida A&M and Bethune-Cookman. The Eagles travel to Tallahassee for their first game against the Rattlers on Saturday, Jan. 7th at 4 p.m. and then will face the Wildcats on Monday, Jan. 9th at 7:30 p.m. in Daytona Beach.
