Syracuse Cruises to Victory Over Coppin State Women’s Basketball

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Coppin State finished with a pair in double figure scoring in a 76-30 defeat at #20 Syracuse on Wednesday, December 7th in the Carrier Dome. Graduate Tiara Goode led the Eagles with 15 points and senior Keena Samuels scored 11 points in the eighth loss of the season for Coppin State.
 
The Eagles were held to 12 made field goals and only three free-throw attempts. Syracuse dominated the game shooting 40% (29-71) from the field including 11 made three-pointers extending their lead to as much as 50 with 2:44 left in the third period. Coppin State committed 28 turnovers leading to 30 points for the Orange while being outscored in the paint 30-12.
 
Goode and Samuels combined for 26 of 30 total points by Coppin State. Goode had a team-high 15 points on five made three-pointers and Samuels finished with 11 points knocking down five field goals and making the Eagles only free-throw of the game. Samuels leads the Eagles with five double-digit scoring games this year while Goode recorded her second.
 
Freshman Mia Crooms scored the Eagles first points of the game with six seconds to go in the first quarter. Samuels opened the second period with a layup highlighting the first half. Senior Oluwaseun Adeniji and Goode each hit a field goal in the third period as the Orange carried a 61-12 advantage into the fourth period.
 
The Eagles outscored the Orange in the fourth period 18-15. Goode drained 4-of-6 three-pointers finishing the quarter with 12 points. Samuels made all three of her attempts from the field as Coppin State made 50% of their attempts. Syracuse rolled to a 76-30 final over the Eagles.
 
Coppin State travels to #16 Miami for a Holiday Tournament on December 19-20 in Coral Gables, FL. After their meeting with the Hurricanes the Eagles will play against the winner of either Maine or Tennessee State. After the holiday break Coppin State takes on North Carolina on Dec. 28 and then UMBC on Dec. 31.
