Louisiana-Monroe Downs Coppin State at Home, 65-53

BALTIMORE, Md. – Coppin State men's basketball fell 65-53 to Louisiana at Monroe on Tuesday, December 20th in the Physical Education Complex. The Eagles outscored the Warhawks by four (33-29) in the second half, but their first half deficit (36-20) was too large to overcome.

The CSU (1-13) bench shined outscoring ULM's bench 33-3. Freshman guard Dejuan Clayton finished with a team-high 11 points while tying a season-best with five made field goals as he attempted a season-high 14 shots. This was his fifth time leading Coppin State in scoring this season which leads the team. Senior Joshua Treadwell had nine points and three rebounds. Sophomore Lucian Brownlee scored eight points hitting 2-of-5 attempted three-pointers. Clayton, Treadwell and Brownlee all came off of the Eagles bench. Junior Blake Simpson went a perfect 4-for-4 from the free-throw line recording a season-high six points.

Louisiana-Monroe carried a 36-20 lead after the first half of play on 48% shooting from the field. ULM made four three-pointers and all four of their free-throw attempts jumping out to a 19-point advantage midway through the half. The Eagles bench scored 14 of their 20 first half points on made three-point shots by Brownlee and Clayton. Brownlee hit a pair of three's finishing with six points while Clayton had the other long range shot. Coppin State made seven field goals shooting 28% in the first half ?against Louisiana-Monroe.

In the second half Coppin State's bench led the charge once more with 19 of 33 points. Treadwell scored all nine of his points on 4-of-9 shooting from the field and Clayton added eight points with four rebounds also knocking down four field goals. The momentum shifted towards the Eagles down the stretch, but the Warhawks kept the advantage by getting to the charity stripe and converting 11-of-15 free-throws in the second half.

Coppin State outscored ULM 33-29 in the final half, but were only successful on 1-of-9 three-pointers taken. The Eagles never recovered from the double-digit deficit and trailed the entire way to the Warhawks, suffering their tenth double figure loss of the season, 65-53.

The ULM pair of Marvin Jean-Pierre (23) and Sam McDaniel (21) led the way for the Warhawks in their fifth win of the season. McDaniel finished with a double-double snagging ten rebounds and Jean-Pierre finished 10-of-12 from the floor.

The Eagles will conclude non-conference play with a Thursday night matchup with Mount St. Mary's at 7 p.m. in Emmittsburg, MD. The last time the Mount and Eagles faced each other was in the 2008 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament Opening Round with CSU falling 69-60.
