The Eagles had a difficult time competing in their seventh straight road game to begin the season. Coppin State had a season-high 19 turnovers and only made 13 shots from the field. After two early free-throws by junior
Blake Simpson, Grand Canyon held Coppin State scoreless for about six minutes.
Lucian Brownlee made the Eagles first field goal of the evening at the 9:01 mark (15-5).
Brownlee made a pair of three-pointers in the opening half off of the bench. The Eagles only made four shots in the half and committed ten turnovers. GCU made 11-of-27 shots (41%) and scored 15 points off of Eagle turnovers. The Lobos carried a 28-14 advantage into halftime.
Coppin State continued to struggle offensively in the second half making 9-of-27 shots from the field (33%) and 0-for-4 from three-point range. Senior
Keith Shivers made a pair of field goals along with
Joshua Treadwell to pace CSU' second half scoring. Grand Canyon dominated the first ever meeting between the teams and led by 34 with 7:50 left to play. The Lobos went on to a 70-37 victory at home.
The Eagles return home on Monday, Nov. 28 to host the Griffins of Chestnut Hill College at 7:30 p.m. for their next contest.
